Our faculty member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Özgür Atalay's project titled "Development of Textile-Based Robotic Structures for Drop Foot Syndrome" was entitled to be supported by TÜBİTAK National Leader Researchers Program. It is aimed that the project will contribute to the creation of new technologies by contributing to Turkey's competitiveness in soft robotics and medicine.

Tübitak 1001 Projects, 2021 I. Term application results have been announced. Out of 2233 evaluated projects, 247 projects were entitled to be supported. Two of the supported projects will be carried out under the supervision of our faculty members Assoc. Prof. Dr. Alper Gürarslan and Assist. Prof. Dr. İpek Yalçın Eniş.

Within the scope of the “Horizon 2020 Program Marie Sklodowska-Curie Scholarship and Circulation Support (MSCA) Individual Fellowship 2020” call, our faculty member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Meltem Yanılmaz's project titled "Composite solid electrolyte development for all solid state lithium batteries" was entitled to be supported by the European Commission.
 
 
 
Assoc. Prof. Dr. İkilem Göcek’s project was supported by the Newton-Katip Çelebi Fund
 

 
The project, which was carried out under the supervision of our faculty member Assoc. Prof. Dr.  İkilem Göcek, was entitled to be supported by the Newton-Katip Çelebi Fund. Within the scope of the project collaborated with Coventry University from England, design of "friendly" robots that will facilitate the lives of elderly individuals by making textile surfaces conductive and integrating them with robots are aimed.
 
 
TÜBİTAK 3501 Project support to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Alper Gürarslan
 

 
The project titled "Porous Alginate Fiber and Active Wound Dressing Development", coordinated by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Alper Gürarslan, was entitled to be supported by TÜBİTAK 3501. In the project, it is aimed to develop a wound dressing that will play an active role in the healing process of wounds and shorten the wound healing process.

Our Textile Engineering PhD Program graduate, Dr. Gülçin Baysal's PhD thesis completed under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Burçak Karagüzel Kayaoğlu, was among the winners of the ITU's most successful doctoral thesis awards in 2020.
 
 
2021 R&D Projects
 

 
This year, new projects have been added to our R&D projects supported by industry, internal and external funds such as TÜBİTAK, BAP and the European Union. The project budget of our faculty has doubled this year, with 3 outsourced and 7 nationally sourced projects that started in 2021. Project topics include various subjects such as tissue engineering studies, waste recycling, smart textiles, microplastics, membrane surfaces, protective textiles, robotic structures, and ballistic applications.
 
 
 
Academic Publications of 2021
 

 
Among the most important outcomes of our faculty's R&D projects are international publications that contribute to the literature. The number of publications per faculty member in our faculty increased in 2021 compared to the previous year and reached 2.02. In addition, there is a remarkable increase (200%) in the number of publications in the Q1 category, which is an indicator of the 25% success ranking of the journal in which it is published.
 
 
Textile Engineering Graduate Theses in 2021
 

 
The contribution of our graduate students is great in the continuity of R&D projects and in bringing qualified publications to the literature. Our Textile Engineering Master’s and PhD Programs lead to the enrichment of the interdisciplinary studies carried out in our faculty and the establishment of the R&D culture, with 12 graduates in 2021.

Two Teknofest awards to the projects of our faculty
 

 
ITU Soft Sensors Lab working group projects, in which Textile Engineering PhD Program student Ayşe Feyza Yılmaz took part as a researcher won awards in two different categories from Teknofest. ITU Soft Sensors Lab project groups carried out their works under the supervision of our faculty member Assoc. Dr. Özgür ATALAY and Computer Engineering faculty member Assoc. Dr. Gökhan İNCE.
 
 
 
TÜBİTAK Star Program Scholarship support for our Textile Engineering students
 

 
Within the scope of TÜBİTAK Star program, which aims to bring an R&D culture to undergraduate students, the students who are entitled to receive scholarships have been announced. Our faculty's junior student Murat Mula and sophomore student Fehmi Cengiz are among the winners.
 
 
TÜRKAK accreditation of our Industrial Service Laboratory was renewed
 

 
ITU Textile and Apparel Quality Control and Research Laboratory, whose TÜRKAK accreditation was renewed in 2021, continues to provide reliable service to the industry.  In our laboratory, including 23 accredited tests, 71 physical and chemical tests can be conducted. Besides, expert committee evaluation reports are given on demand.
 
 
 
Our R&D Centers have been put into industrial service by İTÜPleks
 

 
Our R&D Centers, having advanced technological infrastructure and testing facilities, where the academicians and students of our faculty carry out their projects, have been put into industrial service through the İTÜPleks system. Our R&D Centers bring the academy and the industry together and provide opinion reports on processes that require expertise, ranging from acoustic performance tests to composite material production, from SEM analysis to nanofiber surface production.
 
 
Internship Support for Textile Engineering Students from Kipaş Holding
 

 
Kipaş Holding provided internship support to our Textile Engineering undergraduate students in the fields of yarn, weaving, dyeing-finishing and laboratory. Within the scope of the program, hosted by Kipaş Holding, approximately 60 of our students had the opportunity to support the theoretical and applied knowledge that they have received in their undergraduate education.
 
 
 
All Our Students Benefit From "My Preference is Textile Engineering" Scholarship
 

 
In 2019, in order to meet the need for qualified workforce in the textile sector, a scholarship project up to the minimum wage was implemented for the students who entered the first 80 thousand in the university exam and were entitled to enter the department by choosing one of the first 5 choices of textile engineering. With this scholarship, an 80% increase was achieved in the base score of our Textile Engineering Department in 2021.

The 247th and 248th anniversary ceremonies of Istanbul Technical University, which is preparing to celebrate its 250th anniversary, were celebrated with enthusiasm at ITU Ayazağa Campus, within the framework of pandemic measures.
 
 
 
2021 Undergraduate Senior Design Projects
 

 
In 2021, a total of 65 students took the first step into business life with 20 graduation design projects in the Textile Engineering Program. These projects, which have been completed on current topics such as clothing technologies, innovative business models, sustainability, wearable sensors, textile-based composites, innovative coating and finishing processes, provide students with the opportunity to research and specialize in the subjects they are curious about.
 
 
Our Graduates Attended the Career Advising Courses
 

 
Our third-year students met with our graduates as a part of the Career Advising course. Our graduates, who shared their work and life experiences with our students, guided our students' career goals on a wide range of subjects such as postgraduate education abroad, the development of textile technologies, sustainability in textiles, the current position of the textile industry, textile exports in Turkey and the search for alternative materials.

Within the scope of the Introduction to Textile Engineering course, our first-year students had the opportunity to listen to the professions from the leading representatives of the industry. The participants, who shared their experiences on many topics from technical textiles to sustainability, from innovative R&D activities to digital marketing, contributed to our student’s awareness of Textile Engineering.

In our Textile Engineering Master's and Doctorate Programs, candidates of competent graduate engineers and doctoral who have scientific research and development discipline and can blend textile knowledge with other related subjects are trained. With more than 50 students enrolled in 2021, our programs continue to grow and evolve continuously.
 
 
 
Innovative Technical Textiles Graduate Program
 

 
Our Innovative Technical Textiles Master's Program has been attracting great attention since the first day of its student admission. This program brings together graduates of many basic science and engineering departments such as chemistry, polymers, and materials, as well as textile engineering graduates. There are 41 students enrolled in our program, which especially attracts the attention of sector employees. Within the scope of the program, thesis studies are carried out on different subjects such as nanomaterials, composite structures, natural dyestuffs, and smart textiles.
 
 
Apparel Retail and Fashion Management Graduate Program
 

 
The first and only non-thesis master's program in Turkey, Apparel and Retail Master's Program (evening education), aims to bring a professional perspective to everyone who is interested in the textile industry. In 2021, 22 students have registered for our program, which has so far 61 graduates

The founders of the Flatout901 brand, our Fashion Design & Textile Development and Marketing Program students Nazlı Akan and Yiğit Özer, launched their first collection named "First Drop", which they started to work on in May 2020, to the market in December.

The work of Alara Alarcin, who is our Fashion Design Program student, consisting of a patchwork dress named “Oriental Breeze”, has been selected to be exhibited at the FIT Graduation Exhibition 2021 – AAS. Designs of our student are inspired by eastern culture, modern Egyptian and Indian art.

The designs of our student Yasemin Topçu were selected in the "Packaging with a Slogan Design Project", which was carried out jointly with Adreno within the scope of the Entrepreneurship course of the Fashion Design Program. Adreno products will soon meet with customers in packages designed by our student.
 
 
Textile Development and Marketing Dual Diploma Program
 

 
Textile Development and Marketing Dual Diploma Program, which offers double degree opportunities in cooperation with ITU-SUNY, gives its students the chance to study both in Istanbul and New York. Graduates, who have a work permit in the USA for one year, have the opportunity to learn more about the global textile sector. There are 47 students enrolled in our program
 
 
 
Fashion Design Dual Diploma Program
 

 
In our Fashion Design Program, which offers double degree opportunities in cooperation with ITU-SUNY, provides the students to have a chance to study at FIT, which is among the top three fashion schools in the world. There are 114 students enrolled in our Fashion Design Program, which offers its graduates the right to work in the USA for one year.
