The "TEXWEAROTS" project by Assoc.Prof.Dr. Özgür Atalay, a member of our faculty, was supported by the EU Horizon Europe Program, European Research Council (ERC) Beginner Level. The project seeks to address issues that wearable robotic structures encounter.
 
 
 
MSCA Support to our Faculty Members Under EU Horizon Europe Program
 

 
Within the framework of the EU Horizon Europe Program MSCA SE-2021 call, our faculty members' projects, ReTex by Assoc.Prof.Dr. Özgür Atalay and SmartWaste by Assoc.Prof.Dr. Alper Gürarslan, were found to be deserving of funding. Business and research groups from several countries will participate in the projects which feature sustainability theme.
 
 
TUBITAK-IraSME Support to “STEWART” Project
 

 
“STEWART” project conducted by Assoc.Prof.Dr. Özgür Atalay was granted support in IraSME call. The project, in which İTÜ Computer Engineering Department is also one of the conductor institution, will carry on studies for twenty four months. Medical e-textiles products will be developed by using textile based wearable sensors with biomedical, textile, electronic and computer technologies.
 
 
 
TUBITAK 1505 Support to the Projects of our Faculty Members
 

 
The project titled “Design of Acoustic Properties Improved Blackout (Lightproof) Fabric Made of Hollow (C Section) Bicomponent Filament Yarns” which was prepared by our faculty members Prof.Dr. Banu Uygun Nergis and Prof.Dr. Cevza Candan together with Küçükçalık Textiles, was supported by TUBITAK within the framework of TUBITAK 1505 University-Industry Cooperation Program.

Silver Medal to our Academicians from ISIF'22, Istanbul International Invention Fair
 

 
Our faculty members Prof.Dr. Burçak Karagüzel Kayaoğlu and Assoc.Prof.Dr. İkilem Göcek won a silver medal at Istanbul International Inventions Fair ISIF'22 with their invention of "A Microfluidic Device and Production Method Based on Non-Woven Textile Surface”.

Our faculty member Prof.Dr. Fatma Kalaolu is one of the authors of the article "Futuristic Clothes: Electronic Textiles and Wearable Technologies," which was listed in the Wiley publishing house's "Most Cited Articles" list of the 2020–2021 academic year.
 
 
 
Our Academicians Won the 2nd Prize in the Most Innovative Scientific-Based Project Category
 

 
The project titled “One-Step Easy-Care & Softening Finishing of Knitted Cotton Fabric”, prepared by Assoc.Prof.Dr. Umut Kıvanç Şahin, Research Assistant Elçin Emekdar, Hatice Açıkgöz Tufan and Eren Retail R&D Center employees Muhammed Fatih Yüksel and Durul Büşra Dilden, was awarded as the second prize in the Most Innovative Scientific-Based Project category RDCONF (International Conference on Design, Research and Development) R&D and Innovation Awards 2021.
 
 
Assoc.Prof.Dr. Seyed Maosour Bidok's Visit to our Faculty
 

 
Assoc.Dr. Seyed Maosour Bidok from Department of Textile Engineering of Iran Yazd University, has been studying as a visiting scholar in our faculty since September 2022. Dr. Bidok, who is expert at sustainability, textile printing techniques, and chemical textile finishing, will spend a year pursuing academic studies in our faculty.

One utility model and one patent entitled to our academics and researchers in 2022. The utility model entitled to Prof.Dr. Cevza Candan, Prof.Dr. Banu Uygun Nergis and Bilge Koyuncu, Innovative Technical Textiles Master's Program graduate, with their work "Electronic Knee Clamp Providing Active Motion Control". The patent entitled to Assoc.Prof.Dr. Özgür Atalay and Textile Engineering PhD Program student Ayşe Feyza Arslan with their work "Actuators for Soft Robotic Applications”.
 
 
“Textile Machinery from Past to Present” Exhibition Opened at ITU Gümüşsuyu Campus
 

 
The "Textile Machinery from Past to Present" Exhibition, sponsored by ITKIB, opened on 9 December at ITU Gümüşsuyu Campus. In the exhibition, which is the first laboratory test equipment exhibition in textile field among the universities in Turkiye, there are devices manufactured especially in the 1950s and 1960s and used in various physical and chemical tests of fiber, yarn and fabric structures.
 
 
 
Countdown Has Begun for International Textile and Fashion Congresss (ITFC2023)
 

 
As a part of the 250th anniversary of our university, “International Textile and Fashion Congress (ITFC 2023)” hosted by our faculty, will be at ITU Gümüşsuyu Campus on March 16-17, 2023. Bringing together the academics and the industry representatives from many different countries, ITFC 2023 will be held with theme of innovative textiles and fashion trends tackling global challenges.
 
 
TUBITAK 2209-A Project Support for Textile Engineering Students – 2021/2. Period
 

 
21 students from the Textile Engineering Department were entitled to receive support within the scope of the 2nd project period of TUBITAK 2209-A with a total of 12 different projects. Supported projects will be conducted under the advisory of Assoc.Prof.Dr. Alper Gürarslan  and Assoc.Prof.Dr. Özgür Atalay.

6 Textile Engineering students were supported by TUBITAK 2209-A, in the first term of 2022 with 3 different projects. The projects will be conducted under supervisory of Assoc.Prof.Dr. Umut Kıvanç Şahin and Assoc.Prof.Dr. Alper Gürarslan.
 
 
Scholarship Support to our Students with TUBITAK Star Program
 

 
9 undergraduate students from the Textile Engineering Department were awarded scholarships in various TUBITAK projects carried out in our faculty. Our students will contribute  experimental processes as a scholar for "Robotic Designs for Drop Foot Syndrome" and "Sporty Wearable Technologies", conducted under the advisory of Assoc.Prof.Dr. Özgür Atalay; “Alginate Fiber Wound Dressing Design” and “Sustainable Poplar Fiber Applications” carried out under the advisory of Assoc.Prof.Dr. Alper Gürarslan and "Biodegradable Vascular Graft Design” carried out under the advisory of Assist.Prof.Dr. İpek Yalçın Eniş.
 
 
 
2022 R&D Projects
 

 
Supported by national and international funds such as TUBITAK, BAP, European Union, and industry, 5 new projects, which were supported by international funds,  were added to our R&D projects. Sustainable smart textiles, innovative insulation materials, electronic textile materials, acoustic textiles including bicomponent fibers are some of the subjects of the projects among diverse topics.
 
 
2nd and 3rd Place Award to our Faculty from the FutureTech Contest
 

 
In the FutureTech competition themed technical textiles organized by Istanbul Textile and Raw Materials Exporters' Association (İTHİB), our Research Assistant Janset Öztemur and Engineer Semih Özkür's project named Biotexcover came 2nd, Textile Engineering Undergraduate and Innovative Technical Textiles Graduate Program graduate Bilge Koyuncu's Smart Suit/Wetsuit project was deemed worthy of the 3rd prize.

 
 
 
3rd Place Award to our Faculty from the 30th Koza Young Fashion Designers Competition
 

 
In the 30th Koza Young Fashion Designers Competition organized by the Istanbul Apparel Exporters’ Association (IHKIB) with the support of the Republic of Turkiye Ministry of Trade, Research Assistant Melis Küçükyılmaz won the 3rd prize with her collection named "Margot".
 
 
1st and 3rd Place Award to our Students from the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Contest
 

 
In the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Contest organized by IHKIB, NOVATOR Team, of which Alya Bostani from the Textile Engineering Department is a member, won the 1st place with the "Design of a Doctor's Gown with Improved Comfort Features, Sustainable, Antibacterial" and B-Creative, of which Betül Özçakmak is a member was awarded the 3rd prize with "Innovative and Sustainable Clothing Care Label Design" project.

Fashion Design Program student Nazlı Akan's "Motivational Fun" ITU X IPEKYOL collection is on sale. The eight-piece spring collection, prepared in collaboration with İpekyol, contains details from the fun atmosphere of the virtual world.
 
 
ITKIB Donated Tensile Strength Tester to our Faculty
 

 
Istanbul Textile and Apparel Exporters' Association (ITKIB) donated a Tensile Device (Zwick, Germany) to our Textile and Apparel Quality Control and Research Laboratory. The device, which allows many yarn and fabric strength tests to be performed and has a key importance in mechanical tests, has started to be used in the industrial services and academic studies of our TÜRKAK-accredited laboratory.

Texhibition Istanbul, which brought fabric and textile accessories producers together, was held at Istanbul Expo Center between 21-23 September by the support of ITHIB. Participated as ITU Textile Technologies and Design Faculty, we welcomed our visitors and emphasized the importance of university-industry collaboration.
 
 
Textile Engineering Graduates Took Part in ITU Alumni Interviews
 

 
ITU Alumni Talks hosted Textile Engineering 2010 graduate, Orta Anadolu Marketing and Washing Manager Zennure Danışman and 2003 graduate, LC Waikiki Purchasing Director Burak Çoşkun. In this pleasant conversation where they talked about the current situation, innovative aspects, and future of the sector, they also included stories from their student years.
 
 
 
Textile Engineering Students Met with the Leading Names of the Sector
 

 
Within the scope of the Introduction to Textile Engineering course, freshman students had the opportunity to hear about their professions from the leading representatives of the industry. The participants, who shared their experiences on many topics ranging from technical textiles to sustainability, from innovative R&D activities to digital marketing, contributed to our students' awareness of textile engineering.
 
 
Textile Engineering Graduate Theses
 

 
Postgraduate education is the most important indicator of ensuring the continuity of our department's innovative and qualified R&D activities. Our Textile Engineering Master's and Doctorate Programs, which today show great interest not only to those who are considering an academic career but also to industry employees, had five graduates in 2022. In addition, our Innovative Technical Textiles Master's Program, which is open to the application of students from many branches with its interdisciplinary curriculum, brought its first graduate together with the industry.
 
 
 
2022 Textile Engineering Program Undergraduate Senior Design Projects
 

 
Our Textile Engineering Program students successfully completed their undergraduate senior design projects. With 24 senior design projects completed in 2022, 63 of our students took the first step into their business lives. Our students gained knowledge in the fields they researched through projects on sustainability, innovative composite materials, textile finishing and processes, functional fiber and clothing designs, and the ready-to-wear industry.
 
 
249th Anniversary ITU Day Enthusiasm on our Campus
 

 
Within the scope of ITU's 249th year events, our graduates who have completed their 20th and 30th years in Textile Engineering met at our faculty for a representative graduation ceremony. Our Alumni Day event, where we hosted 1990, 1991, and 1992 graduates together with 2000, 2001, and 2002 graduates, was held with the participation of over 100 graduates. At the event, our retired faculty member, Prof.Dr. Bayram Yüksel, gave a speech and took our graduates back to their student years.
 
 
 
Graduation Joy of our Undergraduate and Graduate Students
 

 
ITU undergraduate and graduate graduation ceremonies, which are celebrated with great enthusiasm every year, took place on July 28, 2022, at the ITU Ayazaga Campus. At the ceremony, a total of 90 students, consisting of 70 undergraduates and 20 graduate students, threw their caps and experienced the joy of graduation with their families and friends.

Farewell Ceremony in Our Faculty
 

 
Prof.Dr. Bülent Özipek, the founding dean of our faculty, retired in July 2022. A farewell ceremony was held for him and Engineer Hamdi Demirler, who retired with Dr. Özipek at the same time, and for our research assistants Pelin Altay, Havva Başkan Bayrak, Hatice Tufan Açıkgöz and Betül Kalebayır Dağparçası who completed their incumbency in the faculty. The retirement ceremony for Prof.Dr. Nuray Uçar, who retired in October 2022, and Prof.Dr. Gülay Özcan, who retired in November 2022, will take place in the spring term of 2022-2023.
