Our faculty member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Özgür Atalay, who completed his master’s and doctoral studies at the University of Manchester, has won the Study UK Alumni Awards – Science and Sustainability Award, selected from among three finalists determined by British Council Türkiye, in recognition of his pioneering work promoting sustainable transformation and scientific innovation.

The award ceremony was held on 20 March 2025 at the British Consulate, in partnership with British Council Türkiye and the UK Consulate General.

On the British Council Türkiye website, the following information was shared about Assoc. Prof. Dr. Özgür Atalay and the work that contributed to his receiving this award:

“Assoc. Prof. Dr. Özgür Atalay is one of the leading experts in the field of smart textiles and is widely recognized for his pioneering work in textile-based wearable electronics and soft robotics. Through innovative projects such as a knitted robotic glove designed for individuals with disabilities, he has received numerous prestigious awards, including an ERC Grant.

At Istanbul Technical University, he is a co-founder of a state-of-the-art laboratory dedicated to soft robotics and wearable technology. He also leads several large EU-funded projects that strengthen collaboration with leading institutions across Europe.

Özgür Atalay has gained significant experience in an interdisciplinary environment focused on textile sensor integration. The university’s collaborative and international atmosphere has broadened his research perspective. This experience has not only enhanced his technical skills but has also deepened his passion for innovation in the field of wearable electronics.

Özgür Atalay is committed to advancing fundamental science both in his home country and across Europe, aiming to improve people’s lives through his research.”
