The project titled “Development of Antithrombotic, Double-Layered, and Biodegradable Vascular Grafts”, prepared under the leadership of Assoc. Prof. Dr. İpek Yalçın Eniş, has been awarded funding within the scope of the TÜSEB 2025-B-01 call.

The project aims to develop biodegradable vascular grafts with controlled drug release to reduce the risk of thrombosis, a common complication in small-diameter vascular grafts.

The interdisciplinary team includes researchers from the Department of Textile Engineering at ITU—Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hande Sezgin, Res. Assist. Janset Öztemur Sezgin, and Res. Assist. Suzan Özdemir—and will be carried out in collaboration with experts from chemical sciences, medical biology, cardiology, cardiovascular surgery, and veterinary medicine.

Within the scope of in vivo studies, the developed grafts will be evaluated through implantation in a pig model. The project aims to contribute to the development of next-generation vascular grafts that are closer to clinical success, offer high long-term patency, and have strong commercialization potential.
