Assoc. Özgür ATALAY and his team were deemed worthy of 1st and 3rd prizes in different categories.

“TexRobots Team” from the ITU Soft Sensors Lab working group, led by our faculty member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Özgür ATALAY and Computer Engineering faculty member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gökhan İNCE, won the first prize in the Teknofest Biotechnology and Innovation Competition, and “SofTex Team” won the third prize in the Teknofest Communication Technologies competition.

In the project named "Texrobot for Hand Paralysis Rehabilitation", which was the first in the field of biotechnology, in which Ayşe Feyza Yılmaz, Kadir Özlem, Fidan Khalilbayli, and Ömür Fatmanur Erzurumluoğlu took part, textile-based seamless knitted actuators were developed and soft exoskeleton robots were built for hand rehabilitation of paralyzed patients.

In the "Real-Time Activity and Heart Rate Detection Using Textile-Based Sensors" project, in which our university students Uğur Ayvaz, Kadir Özlem, Ayşe Feyza Yılmaz, Ali Emre Öztaş took part and won the third place in the field of communication, textile-based capacitive strain sensors and ECG electrodes were used. Real-time activity and heart rate detection was performed by integrating it into the suit. A modular wearable system was designed by using Bluetooth and IoT technologies.

İTÜ Faculty of Textile Technologies and Design

Textile Engineering Department of Istanbul Technical University (İTÜ) is the first and the single one offering textile engineering education in Istanbul, and also comes first among the top textile engineering schools in Turkey. Its history could be traced back to 1955; the year in which the textile division was established in the body of Mechanical Engineering. The school gained its current name and independent status in 1983. Therefore, it is obvious that the Textile Engineering Department is fairly new compared to the history of İTÜ stretching back to 240 years.
