- How many credits are needed for doing internship?
The necessary condition is to have completed 30 credits, regardless of whether the courses relevant to the internship have been taken or not.
- How are the students placed if internship is arranged by the Faculty ?
In the case of internships arranged by the Faculty, the students are placed according to their GPS and whether or not they have taken the course relevant to the internship.
- Are volunary internships allowed only after compulsory internships?
No, it is possible to do voluntary internships without completing the compulsory internships.
- Is it possible to do voluntary internships in non-textile companies?
No, voluntary internships have to be done in textile companies.
- Is it possible for the University to do the insurance in voluntary internships?
Yes, the insurance can be done by the University in the case of voluntary internships upto 50 days. The procedure for voluntary internships upto 30 days is the same as that for the compulsory internships. For voluntary internships over 30 days, it is necessary to apply to the Student Affairs by a petition and get the approval of the Faculty Executive Board.
- What points should be taken into consideration in creating the Internship Work Calendar?
National Days coinciding with internship do not count. If internship is to be done on Saturdays then a document stating that the company does work on Saturdays has to be presented.
- Is it possible to do internship in the Final Exam week?
No it isn’t. Students need to present the Final Exam time-table and the courses that they are taking in order to prove that they do not have any Final Exam.
- Is it possible to do internship at Summer School?
Yes, if there are 3 free whole days in a week, including weekends. However, the fact that companies do not work on Sundays must be taken into account. Plus, it is not possible to do internship on days when a courses is scheduled, even if the course registered is conducted on-line.
- Is it possible to do internship during semesters?

- What should be the procedures for internships abroad?
According to ITU Internship Policy; since the insurance of Erasmus or optional internships to be carried out abroad is not carried out by our university in accordance with the new internship policy, these internships will not be registered in the portal system. If it is requested that the internships in question be considered as compulsory internships, the student must apply to the faculty internship commission with the internship acceptance certificate including the internship dates, employment contract, proof of insurance, passport photocopy and internship report from the company where the student will do the internship. The internship commission will also evaluate and accept the internship if deemed appropriate. We remind you that the internship reports of the students who will do their internship abroad must be in accordance with the internship report format of our department. The internship abroad must be a production internship.
- Is there any penalty for not attending the internship despite getting insured?
Disciplinary action will be taken in the case of not attending the internship after getting insured. In order to avoid the penalty, it is necessary to get in touch with the Career Office and Internship Centre and cancel the insurance.
- Is there any penalty for not attending the internship despite having been placed in faculty quota?
The student will not be placed in faculty quotas next year.
- Is it possible to be exempt from compulsory internships?
Article 47- (Annex: Universiy Senate 28.09.2023-845) Students who work as an insured employee regulated by Social Security Institution (SGK) in a work place that does business in the same sector as the programme being studied can request to be exempt from internship. Students who want to apply must have worked at that work place at least for a period of compulsory internship. Students’ applications regarding exemption from compulsory internship are evaluated and finalized by the Internship Committee of the department in which they are studying. The evaluation of the exemption applications depends on the documentation of the work performed in the workplace with SGK records. To finalize the exemption evaluation, contents of the internship module of the department in which the student studies must be compatible with the work where the student is employed, students must prepare an internship report written according to principles of compulsory internship, and the report must be approved by the department internship commission.
Not: In Textile Engineering, it is imperative to do factory internship.
