The education, training and R & D activities of Textile Development and Marketing Department are being carried out with the framework of cooperation created between the Rector of Istanbul Technical University and Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT, New York) under the New York State University (SUNY). Accordingly, students accepted to the named department will continue their education for first 3 years in the relevant department of Faculty of Textile Technology and Design in Istanbul Technical University and the last academic year in FIT. They graduate with a diploma including the approval of both institutions. 30 students are accepted to this department each year, teaching language is English. Students who graduate this department have work permits for one year in the United States.
Objectives of this program: To educate experts having skills to develop and market textile products
Content: As part of this program, first the theoretical and practical courses take place which are related to Textile Technology and Sciences regarding the fiber, yarn, woven and knitted fabrics, nonwovens, dyeing, printing, finishing technologies and products. In addition to basic technological information, information about international markets, marketing techniques of textile products, economics and financial aspects are given. In this way, the factors which should be kept in mind to increase the market share of any textile product are detailed analyzed. Besides, general information about fashion affecting the market and market share is given. Thus, it will be possible to educate experts having skills to develop and market textile products with certain properties.
Students are placed to ITU-SUNY double diploma TEXTILE DEVELOPMENT AND MARKETING program by TYT, and entire course is in English. Students need to have an adequate level of English to start their education. Therefore, students have to take TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) exam which determines the level of English language and have to be successful. Students admitted to international partner degree program have to get at least 550 in written TOEFL exam, at least 213 in computer based TOEFL exam or 80 points in internet-based TOEFL exam. Otherwise, they will receive intensive English training in ITU in the English preparatory school for one year and at the end they have to take again TOEFL exam and receive the scores mentioned above. Students can not start degree program unless they provide TOEFL requirement. Maximum two years are given to students to provide TOEFL requirement. If they do not provide the TOEFL requirements in two years their registrations will be cancelled.
Textile Development and Marketing Program, a joint program with Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), is a 4 year program, where students pursue their first and second year education at Istanbul Technical University Textile Technologies and Design Faculty, third and fourth year education at Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT). For 2018-2019 academic year, the tuition fee for this program is 7700 TL/year for preparation class, 12000 TL/year for undergraduate program. FIT’s tuition fee for the third and fourth year is approximately 20,000 USD, this fee includes Fashion Institute of Technology's tuition and fees and mandatory health insurance for the foreseen semesters of the program to be studied in USA. During the course that the student will spend in FIT, the expenses per academic semester is estimated to be approximately 10,000 USD including dormitory, dining, book, stationery, and personal expenses.
Any increase in education fee will occur in following years will be announced to the students before the beginning of the each academic year and all the students will pay new education fee which is announced for this year regardless of the beginning year.
