TÜBİTAK 2209-A1 projects will be carried out under the consultancy of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Alper Gürarslan and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Umut Kıvanç Şahin.

TÜBİTAK 2209-A University Students Research Projects Support Program 2022 1st Term application results have been announced. The projects of our textile engineering students Aslin Kartun and Merve Şenay, under the consultancy of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Alper Gürarslan and the projects of İrem Yılmaz, Öykü Elmas, Sevgi Altay and Ecem Alagöz under the consultancy of Umut Kıvanç Şahin will be carried out.

We congratulate our students and wish them continued success.

Investigation of the Effect of Polyvinyl Alcohol Concentration on the Formation of Silver Nanowire Coated Porous Alginate Film

Student Team: Aslin KARTUN

Supervisor: Doç. Dr. Alper GÜRARSLAN

In this project, it is aimed to create an antibacterial wound dressing that will contribute to shortening the wound healing time. In this study, the effect of polyvinal alcohol (PVA) concentration on pore formation in the production of porous alginate film obtained by solvent casting method will be examined.

Investigation of the Effect of Polyvinyl Alcohol Molecular Weight on the Formation of Silver Nanowire Coated Porous Alginate Film

Student Team: Merve ŞENAY

Supervisor: Doç. Dr. Alper GÜRARSLAN

With this project, it is aimed that the pore formation of the wound dressings obtained by using different PVA molecular weights in silver nanowire coated alginate films with multifunctional properties will contribute to the healing process of active wounds. In this study, the effect of polyvinal alcohol (PVA) molecular weight on pore formation in the production of porous alginate film obtained by solution pouring method and antibacterial properties by coating the films with silver nanowire will be examined.

Improving Thermal Comfort Properties of Denim Fabrics

Student Team: İrem YILMAZ, Ecem ALAGÖZ, Öykü ELMAS, Sevgi ALTAY

Supervisor: Doç. Dr. Umut Kıvanç ŞAHİN

In this project, in order to improve the thermal comfort properties of denim fabrics, it was planned to apply phase change materials to denim products with high performance with the help of formaldehyde-free cross-linkers using the micro-encapsulation method. The aim of this research is to develop an innovative process for obtaining denim products that do not use harmful chemicals during production, where the denim product user will feel more comfortable while wearing them.

İTÜ Faculty of Textile Technologies and Design

Textile Engineering Department of Istanbul Technical University (İTÜ) is the first and the single one offering textile engineering education in Istanbul, and also comes first among the top textile engineering schools in Turkey. Its history could be traced back to 1955; the year in which the textile division was established in the body of Mechanical Engineering. The school gained its current name and independent status in 1983. Therefore, it is obvious that the Textile Engineering Department is fairly new compared to the history of İTÜ stretching back to 240 years.
