Exhibition has been held on 9 December 2022 at ITU Gümüşsuyu Campus.

The exhibition "Textile Machinery from Past to Present" launched at the ITU Gümüşsuyu Campus.

The exhibition, sponsored by İTKİB, launched on December 9, 2022, on the 3rd floor corridor of the Faculty of Textile Technologies and Design.

Our Dean Prof. Dr. Ömer Berk Berkalp delivered the opening speech of the exhibition. Our Vice Rectors, Prof. Dr. Şule Itır Satoğlu and Prof. Dr. Mustafa Kumral, İTHİB Vice Chairman of the Board Ali Sami Aydın, İHKİB Vice Chairman of the Board Mustafa Paşahan, as well as many of our graduates, students, industry representatives, academic and administrative staff participated in this great excitement.

The “Textile Machinery from Past to Present” Exhibition brings the test devices which were the best technology of its time, that had been used for both education and laboratory needs of the industry since the establishment of the Textile Chair (1955) together with todays. The exhibition has the distinction of being the first laboratory test equipment exhibition in the field of textile within a university in Turkey.

In the exhibition, there are a wide variety of devices manufactured especially in the 1950s-1960s, such as yarn and fabric strength testers, pH meters, hair hygrometers, polymeters, microscopes, scales with different working principles. The Jung-Thoma Sledge Microtome (E. Leitz Wetzlar, Germany (1923)) is the oldest device in the exhibition.

We would like to thank our exhibition sponsors, İTHİB, İHKİB, and İTÜ Rectorate, as well as the academicians from our faculty who contributed with the exhibition's preparation and organization.

İTÜ Faculty of Textile Technologies and Design

Textile Engineering Department of Istanbul Technical University (İTÜ) is the first and the single one offering textile engineering education in Istanbul, and also comes first among the top textile engineering schools in Turkey. Its history could be traced back to 1955; the year in which the textile division was established in the body of Mechanical Engineering. The school gained its current name and independent status in 1983. Therefore, it is obvious that the Textile Engineering Department is fairly new compared to the history of İTÜ stretching back to 240 years.
