Dr. M. Murat Pekşen and Dr. Ali Al-Masri worked as guest researchers at our faculty from May 11 to May 24, 2023.
In the framework of the TÜBİTAK Science Fellow Support Program (BİDEB) 2221-Visiting or Sabbatical Scientist Support Program, a project prepared and presented by Prof. Dr. Cevza CANDAN brought together visiting researchers, Dr. M. Murat Pekşen from the Technical University of Munich and Dr. Ali Al-Masri from RWTH Aachen University, who worked as invited researchers at our university from May 11 to May 24, 2023. As part of the BİDEB 2221 Support Program's April Term applications, in accordance with the title determined by TÜBİTAK; Dr. M Murat Peksen, Dr. Ali Al-Masri, Prof. Dr. Cevza CANDAN, and Prof. Dr. Banu NERGİS conducted publication, project, and seminar-based studies on the subject of "Technical textile design consisting of strengthening, high-performance materials for the construction sector."

During the mentioned period, the scientists worked on preliminary studies for modeling/simulation-based research on the use of textile-based materials together with concrete and other construction materials for developing earthquake-resistant structures. Additionally, the guest scientists, on May 18, 2023, conducted two online seminars open to industry participation for postgraduate students: "Modeling and Simulation in Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) Approach" and "Reinforced Composites Using Textile Materials in the Construction Sector."

İTÜ Faculty of Textile Technologies and Design

Textile Engineering Department of Istanbul Technical University (İTÜ) is the first and the single one offering textile engineering education in Istanbul, and also comes first among the top textile engineering schools in Turkey. Its history could be traced back to 1955; the year in which the textile division was established in the body of Mechanical Engineering. The school gained its current name and independent status in 1983. Therefore, it is obvious that the Textile Engineering Department is fairly new compared to the history of İTÜ stretching back to 240 years.
