The international patent for which Prof. Dr. Emel ÖNDER KARAOĞLU, a faculty member of the Istanbul Technical University Department of Textile Engineering, is one of the inventors, has been registered.

International Patent:

The international patent titled 'A Textile Product Containing Phase Change Material and a Method for Obtaining Thereof' of which İstanbul Technical University, Department of Textile Engineering faculty member Prof. Dr. Emel ÖNDER KARAOĞLU is one of the inventors, was registered on 12.07.2023 with the number GB2594185B by the United Kingdom Patent Office.

Inventors: Prof. Dr. Nihal Sarıer (Istanbul Kültür University) and Prof. Dr. Emel Önder Karaoğlu (Istanbul Technical University)

Subject of the Patent: The production of environmentally friendly polymers, starting from plant-based oily alcohols, capable of high heat absorption and dissipation within specific temperature ranges, having the ability for thermal cycling, being thermally and chemically stable, non-toxic, and eco-friendly; subsequently, creating nanocomposites that could serve as the basis for developing textile products with temperature regulation functionality by imparting a thin, flexible nano-web structure to the produced polymers using the electrospinning method. The nanocomposite products produced under this patent are functional textile products capable of dynamic heat management, serving as 'smart products' sensitive to changes in ambient temperature in garment systems, for protection from cold and hot environments in textiles such as tents, blankets, etc., in buildings, automotive, aerospace industries, biomedical applications, temperature-sensitive packaging, solar panels, and other potential applications.

İTÜ Faculty of Textile Technologies and Design

Textile Engineering Department of Istanbul Technical University (İTÜ) is the first and the single one offering textile engineering education in Istanbul, and also comes first among the top textile engineering schools in Turkey. Its history could be traced back to 1955; the year in which the textile division was established in the body of Mechanical Engineering. The school gained its current name and independent status in 1983. Therefore, it is obvious that the Textile Engineering Department is fairly new compared to the history of İTÜ stretching back to 240 years.
