Our faculty member, Assoc. Prof. Dr. İpek Yalçın Eniş, successfully coordinated the completion of the project on compliance test module design for small-caliber vascular grafts.

The project titled "Design of a Compliance Test Module for Small Caliber Vascular Grafts and Analysis of Compliance Properties of Biocomponent Fiber-Based Biodegradable Vascular Grafts" led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. İpek Yalçın Eniş, a faculty member at our department, has been successfully completed.

The project aimed to develop small-caliber, biodegradable vascular grafts with improved compliance properties. In this context, a specialized compliance test unit was designed to test the compliance properties of these grafts. Work focused on material selection (polcaprolactone (PCL), polylactic acid (PLA)) and constructional parameters (fiber orientation, bi-component fiber design, layered graft structure, etc.) to enhance the grafts’ radial elasticity.

The developed test device analyzes the radial elasticity of the grafts by measuring changes in their diameter, helping to reduce the mismatch in radial elasticity between synthetic grafts and real arteries. This project has made significant contributions to both graft design and technology development in the field of biomedical engineering.

We congratulate Assoc. Prof. Dr. İpek Yalçın Eniş and her team and wish them continued success.

İTÜ Faculty of Textile Technologies and Design

Textile Engineering Department of Istanbul Technical University (İTÜ) is the first and the single one offering textile engineering education in Istanbul, and also comes first among the top textile engineering schools in Turkey. Its history could be traced back to 1955; the year in which the textile division was established in the body of Mechanical Engineering. The school gained its current name and independent status in 1983. Therefore, it is obvious that the Textile Engineering Department is fairly new compared to the history of İTÜ stretching back to 240 years.
