Assoc. Prof. Dr. Atalay’s ongoing project hosted by İTÜ, TEXWEAROTS: Textile-Based Wearable Soft Robotic Systems with Sensing, Actuation, and Self-Strengthening Capabilities, was previously funded under the ERC-2021-StG call. The TEXWEAROTS project combines textile technology and robotics to develop textile-based robotic structures aimed at aiding individuals with muscle weakness in their treatment process.

Interactive VR Experience with TexSoRVA
Our faculty member, ERC Starting Grant awardee Assoc. Prof. Dr. Özgür Atalay, has been granted support under the ERC-2024-PoC call's second submission deadline. He is the only researcher from Turkey to receive funding under the ERC 2024 Proof of Concept call.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Atalay's project, titled "TexSoRVA: Textile-Based Soft Robotic Systems for Virtual Reality Applications", aims to develop an innovative technology that enhances the realism of virtual reality (VR) experiences. Designed as a wearable robotic glove, TexSoRVA is intended to track the user’s movements and provide tactile feedback, creating a more interactive VR environment. Additionally, the device is planned to have applications in fields such as physical therapy and sports. The project prioritizes a thin and flexible design that can perform all necessary functions without relying on traditional bulky components.

We congratulate Assoc. Prof. Dr. Atalay and wish him continued success.

This PoC project was supported during its preparation phase through the TÜBİTAK ERC Principal Investigator Development Program (EBAG).

İTÜ Faculty of Textile Technologies and Design

Textile Engineering Department of Istanbul Technical University (İTÜ) is the first and the single one offering textile engineering education in Istanbul, and also comes first among the top textile engineering schools in Turkey. Its history could be traced back to 1955; the year in which the textile division was established in the body of Mechanical Engineering. The school gained its current name and independent status in 1983. Therefore, it is obvious that the Textile Engineering Department is fairly new compared to the history of İTÜ stretching back to 240 years.
