Tubitak 1001 Projects 2021 I. Term application results were announced on 8 July 2021. Out of 2233 projects that were evaluated, 247 were entitled to be supported.

12 of the supported projects are under the direction of Istanbul Technical University faculty members, and two of these projects are led by our faculty members Assoc. Prof. Dr. Alper Gürarslan and Assist. Prof. Dr. İpek Yalçın Eniş.

In the project titled "Sustainable Electronic, Protective and Medical Textile Applications of Poplar Fibers", which will be carried out under the direction of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Alper Gürarslan, it is aimed to transform poplar fibers, a natural material that has not yet been used in any product, into functional textile products with high added value. For this purpose, electronic textile and medical textile products will be developed from poplar fibers. Scholarship support will be given to 3 graduate students in the project, which will last for 3 years. Researchers from Marmara University Textile Engineering Department also take part in the project, in which Assoc. Prof. Dr. Özgür Atalay from our faculty takes part.

In the project titled “Observation of autograft formation and holistic analysis of the pre-clinical process by long-term implantation of double-layered small-caliber vascular grafts made of biodegradable polymeric fibers into the porcine carotid artery and holistic analysis of the pre-clinical process”, which will be carried out under the supervision of Assist. Prof. Dr. İpek Yalçın Eniş, the biodegradable vascular grafts with nano and micro fibers in a layered structure will be developed. The project team, which obtained promising results regarding the in-vitro process in their previous studies, will evaluate the success of the in-vivo process by implanting the vascular grafts they will develop within the scope of this project into the porcine carotid artery. The success of long-term implantation of vascular grafts in a large animal model will guide the successful surgical applicability of small-bore biodegradable vascular grafts in the fight against cardiovascular diseases. Scholarship support will be given to 6 graduate and 2 undergraduate students during the project, which will last for 3 years. Beside our faculty members Dr. Hande Sezgin, Res. Assist. Janset Öztemur and Res. Assist. Suzan Özdemir, Bursa Uludağ University Faculty of Medicine and Bursa Uludağ University Veterinary Faculty researchers also take part in the project
