Our faculty member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Özgür Atalay's project titled "Development of Textile-Based Robotic Structures for Drop Foot Syndrome" was deemed worthy of support by the TÜBİTAK National Leading Researchers Program. During the project, 5 doctoral and post-doctoral researchers will be funded and the research budget is 1.970.000 TL.

In the project, which aims to produce textile-based sensor-integrated pneumatic actuators using knitting technology, the anisotropic properties and sensor integration that the actuators must have in order to make the necessary movements will be provided during fabric production. Soft robotic structures to be produced will be developed and tested for the treatment of foot drop syndrome. It is envisaged that the expected results of the project will contribute to the improvement of the foot functions of people with neuromuscular disabilities. The successful completion of this project will contribute to Turkey's competitiveness in soft robotics and medicine, and will be instrumental in the creation of new technologies.

İTÜ Faculty of Textile Technologies and Design

Textile Engineering Department of Istanbul Technical University (İTÜ) is the first and the single one offering textile engineering education in Istanbul, and also comes first among the top textile engineering schools in Turkey. Its history could be traced back to 1955; the year in which the textile division was established in the body of Mechanical Engineering. The school gained its current name and independent status in 1983. Therefore, it is obvious that the Textile Engineering Department is fairly new compared to the history of İTÜ stretching back to 240 years.
